Flat Roofs

Flat roofs have become increasingly popular, with new roofing systems being introduced every year. Coming from a family with deep expertise in the roofing industry, we leverage our extensive knowledge to provide the best advice tailored to your specific needs. We offer 10- to 30-year guarantees on our flat roof installations, ensuring long-term peace of mind.

Our flat roofs are available in both warm and cold deck systems, depending on your preferred finish. We work with a variety of materials, including RBM, rubber, single-ply membranes, and liquid plastics. Please get in touch with us to discuss which system would be the best fit for your project.

Warm Deck Flat Roof

A warm deck flat roof system is a type of roofing construction where the insulation is placed on top of the structural deck (usually plywood or concrete) but beneath the waterproof membrane. This design keeps the roof structure warm by ensuring that the insulation layer is placed directly under the roof covering, rather than below it.

Key Features of a Warm Deck System:

1. Insulation Placement: The insulation is positioned above the structural deck, directly beneath the weatherproofing layer (such as bitumen or single-ply membranes).

2. Energy Efficiency: Since the insulation is above the deck, it helps to prevent heat loss, making the roof more energy-efficient and reducing heating costs in the building below.

3. Moisture Control: This setup reduces the risk of condensation forming in the roof structure, which could potentially lead to dampness or structural damage.

4. Better Performance in Cold Weather: The warm deck design ensures that the roof structure stays insulated, even during colder weather, preventing ice or snow buildup that could potentially cause leaks.

Overall, warm deck systems are an excellent choice for energy efficiency, providing superior thermal insulation and moisture control.

Cold Deck Flat Roof

A cold deck flat roof system is a roofing design where the insulation is placed below the structural deck (such as timber or concrete) and above the ceiling of the building. In this setup, the roof deck is not insulated directly, so the roof structure is exposed to the outdoor temperature, leading to the term “cold deck.”

Key Features of a Cold Deck System:

1.Insulation Placement: The insulation is installed beneath the roof deck and above the ceiling of the building, leaving the deck exposed to the elements. This is in contrast to the warm deck system, where the insulation is above the deck.

2.Ventilation: Cold deck systems typically require ventilation to allow air to circulate between the insulation and the roof deck. This helps to prevent moisture buildup and condensation within the structure.

3.Condensation Risk: Because the roof deck is exposed to colder temperatures, condensation can form within the roofing structure if not properly ventilated, leading to potential moisture issues and reduced energy efficiency.

4.Lower Initial Cost: Cold deck systems are often less expensive to install compared to warm deck systems, as the insulation is placed lower and the roofing materials may be simpler.

However, the cold deck system can be less energy-efficient and more prone to condensation problems if not designed with proper ventilation.
